14. Shrubberies

Shrubberies This covers a large area with many ornamental trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and Apple trees full of climbers, Lonicera, Clematis, Akebia quinata (Chocolate vine) and roses like the very pretty double yellow button flowered Banksiae which completely covers one large tree. Other roses include Wedding day, Kiftsgate, Moyesii,Veilchenblau and some old shrub roses. Some of the other plants of special interest are Zelkova serrata, Enkianthus campanulatus, Stachyurus praecox, Corylopsis spicata, my own name for it is the lemon sherbet shrub and Pittosporum tenuifolium which has tiny brown sweet scented flowers. There is also Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka, New Zealand tea-tree) with a profusion of small white flowers and Arbutus unedo (Strawberry tree) with edible fruit that look much better than they taste.
