17. Veranda and Lily pools
In the heat of the summer the veranda is a very pleasant place to sit
a while, it overlooks the two lily pools ,which were once used as industrial
dough mixers, a variety of Hostas and Dierama (Angels fishing rods)
and amongst the herbaceous and rockery plants is Brazen hussy a bronzed
leaved Celandine.
Look to the little courtyard to the left, in the brick area by the house
is a handsome Crinodendron hookerianum, easy to see why it is called
Lantern tree in late spring and early summer when covered in little
red lanterns, Mentha requienii (Corsican mint) fills the cracks in the
stone area and the wonderful metal seat was smithed by the very skilful
Dave Bissell. Just in front of the veranda are the summer bulbs of Galtonia,
Agapanthus and Tigridia.
